Why Your Marketing Shouldn’t Take a Holiday

How to Keep Marketing Consistently Over Christmas & New Year

Are you contemplating a well-deserved break this festive season? While the holiday spirit may be calling, it doesn’t mean your marketing efforts should hang up their hats too. Consistency is the key to yielding results, and the impact of your marketing today will echo in your sales over the next few months.

Keeping your marketing running during Christmas and New Year is a key strategic move for your business.

Many businesses experience a dip in sales during January, often exacerbated by a lack of marketing effort in December.

While it’s tempting to assume everyone is tuning out during the festive season, the reality is that not everyone is in holiday mode for the whole time. Some are still checking emails, scrolling through social media, and making purchasing decisions. By maintaining your marketing presence, you seize the opportunity to stand out when your competitors might be taking a marketing siesta.

Keep reading for tips on how to enjoy a well earned break this Christmas whilst keeping the marketing cogs turning in your business.

Consistency is the Name of the Game

Consistent marketing doesn’t have to be an arduous task. Invest just an hour or two this week, and you can potentially cover your marketing needs for the next two weeks. Be it sofas, coffee, tax returns, or coaching services, people might still be in a buying mindset, and the holiday season offers them more headspace to make those purchases.

Tips to Help Your Prepare for Your Time Away

  • Batch Create

If you usually write a weekly email, consider writing an extra one or two in advance. They don’t all need to be lengthy or stick to your usual format. As it’s the holidays you may choose to take a more light-hearted approach sharing an end-of-year reflection, a quiz, a recipe, or giving behind-the-scenes glimpses. The goal is to stay top of mind while requiring minimal effort.

The key is to take advantage of the productive zone you’re in now to create content for the period between Christmas and New Year, and even the first week of January. Returning to your desk with your marketing content already prepared sets you ahead and you’ll be ready to hit the ground running.

  • Repurpose Content Across Multiple Channels

Create one piece of content and repurpose it across multiple channels. Write a blog, turn it into an email for your list, record it as a podcast, and chop it up into several social media posts.

Not everyone will see everything you put out there, so this one piece of content will reach multiple audiences. If people are exposed to you on more than one channel then having consistency in your message will also help to reinforce it giving you greater impact.

  • Make Use of Scheduling Tools

Just because you are creating and sharing content over the holiday period, doesn’t mean that you need to be there making it happen.

Set up your emails to broadcast automatically. Explore the scheduling tools available on various platforms, from native options on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram to third-party applications like Buffer or Later.com. Efficiently plan and schedule your content to maintain a consistent online presence without being tied to your desk.

  • Plan Ahead for January

Take a moment now to think about your marketing strategy for January. Preparing your weekly marketing staples in advance ensures they’re ready to go on 2nd January, giving you breathing space and a strong start to the New Year. Being proactive will help you avoiding the sales dip that often plagues businesses post-holidays when it takes them a while to ramp up their marketing again.

Hopefully this has shown you the benefits of staying on top of your marketing even when you are taking time off. All it takes is a small investment of time ahead of your break to keep your business visible and your sales momentum strong.
